About
I'm so lucky. . . I grew up in a family of makers. Spinners, weavers, sewers, woodworkers, builders, you name it, someone in our family did it. A large part of that had to do with the need to be frugal- make do and mend- but it was laced with a healthy dose of love for craft seasoned with a need to create. It's special to pick up something that has been handmade and use it. Handmade, in my family, is a lifestyle.
When I started Teasel, I wanted to share the joy of being surrounded with handmade objects. I wanted to share the things I love to use.
Each item in my shop comes from a place of happiness - either a memory associated with my family, or a technique I just really enjoy. I often use reclaimed, rescued, or found materials, making much of what you find here one of a kind. Once in a while, my family members drop in and share some of their handmades too.
I believe that handwork is love made visible. When you bring a product from Teasel into your home, a little bit of us comes with it. I hope you love it as much as we do.
Thanks for shopping at Teasel!
But Kimberly! What is a Teasel? Glad you asked! A teasel is a member of the thistle family. It's considered a noxious weed here in the United States, but in Western Europe (its native area) it has a rich and long historical association with the wool industry. Teasel plants have very sharp flower heads that, when dried, were bound onto paddles and used like a brush to full wool cloth. I love the idea that a homely plant helped make beautiful cloth. I am inspired by teasel. Being a very passionate textile artist, I couldn't help but choose the teasel to represent my shop.
